21 June 25 - When Weather Gets Wacky: What Every Party Host Should Know About Outdoor Safety

Planning an outdoor party?

Florida skies can be unpredictable—sunshine one minute, storms the next. And when bounce houses are involved, wind and weather safety isn’t just important—it’s non-negotiable. Here’s what every party host should know to help keep guests safe and the fun on track.

-

🌬️ Why Wind Is a Big Deal

Inflatables are big, light, and love to catch the breeze. If winds get too strong, they can tip, shift—or even go airborne. To prevent that:

  • Our inflatables should not be used in wind gusts over 15 mph

  • They’re fully anchored at drop-off, but it’s up to the host to ensure they stay that way

  • If wind picks up unexpectedly, you’ll need to remove all occupants, deflate and stop use immediately until wind gusts remain under 15 mph

-

⚡️ Lightning, Rain & Storms

Inflatables and bad weather don’t mix. If thunder rolls in or heavy rain starts:

  • follow the 30/30 rule: If you hear thunder less than 30 seconds after a lightning flash, it's too close—time to pause
  • Immediately stop use and unplug the inflatable

  • Never use the unit in wet conditions—it becomes slippery and unsafe

  • Wait 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder before considering re-inflation

-

✅ Your Role as the Safety Hero

1. Monitor the Weather: Check the forecast before and during your event. Have a phone handy to check for alerts—and keep an eye on the sky!

2. Know When to Pause: If wind speeds rise above the safe limit or lightning is nearby, remove all occupants and shut everything down. Safety comes before playtime.

3. Keep Equipment As-Is: Don't move or adjust the inflatable, blower, anchors, or cords. They’ve all been set for maximum safety.

4. Know How to Deflate in an Emergency: We’ll show you the power cord or deflation process at drop-off. If conditions get unsafe, be ready to act quickly.

5. Ask Us Questions: Not sure what to do? Text or call—we’re happy to guide you through it.

🚫 What Could Go Wrong? A Serious Note on Safety

By now, you’ve probably seen those viral videos—bounce houses tumbling through neighborhoods or flying through the air on windy days. While they might rack up views online, the danger behind them is very real. At Citrus Jump, we’re not here to scare you—but we do want to make sure you understand how important these safety guidelines are.

If inflatables are used in unsafe conditions or tampered with after setup, the risks include:

  • Damage to your property or others’

  • Loss or destruction of the inflatable

  • Hazards to nearby power lines or structures

  • Injury or even loss of life

  • Fees or legal consequences, and permanent blacklisting from future bookings.

We follow strict safety protocols established by our manufacturers and national safety organizations—and we count on our renters to do the same. For full details, review your rental contract, or contact us anytime with questions.

-

It is important to note that in most cases where this occurs, safety protocols such as staking and deflating the inflatables during winds were not followed.
